A synthesis of the approach, conclusions and recommendations of TEEB

This synthesis builds on the results of six TEEB reports over the last 3 years (see the reports below): TEEB Interim Report, TEEB Climate Issues Update, TEEB for National and International Policy Makers, TEEB for Regional and Local Policymakers and TEEB for Business
This synthesis complements, but does not attempt to summarize, the other products of TEEB (see insert, section 4 and Annex 1). The aim of this synthesis is to highlight and illustrate the approach adopted by TEEB: namely to show how economic concepts and tools can help equip society with the means to incorporate the values of nature into decision making at all levels.
The document was released on October 2010.

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity for Local and Regional Policy Makers

This report is planned to be a useful advisory tool for local and regional policymakers, administrators and managers. It explores and gives practical guidance on how to deal with the challenge of biodiversity loss at a local and regional level. It examines what local governments can do with respect to natural resource use and management, maintaining and supporting biodiversity, local and regional urban and spatial design, as well as market-based approaches, such as Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES).
The TEEB for Local and Regional Policy Makers was released on September  2010.

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity : Report for Business

In this executive summary, the authors review some key indicators and drivers of biodiversity loss and ecosystem decline, and show how this presents both risks and opportunities to business. They examine the changing preferences of consumers for nature-friendly products and services, and offer some examples of how companies are responding.
The document was published by TEEB (The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity) in 2010.

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity - for National and International Policy Makers

TEEB (The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity) draws together experience, knowledge and expertise from all regions of the world in the fields of science, economics and policy. Its' aim is to guide practical policy responses to the growing evidence of the impacts of ongoing losses of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
It points to four urgent strategic priorities: to halt deforestation and forest degradation, to protect tropical coral reefs, to save and restore global fisheries and related jobs, to recognize the deep link between ecosystem degradation and the persistence of rural poverty and align policies across sectors with key Millennium development goals.
The document was published in 2009.

TEEB Climate Issues

In this report, they assessed the economic magnitude of the human welfare impacts of losing natural areas, especially forests. They described in economic terms the fundamental links between eliminating poverty and conserving biodiversity and ecosystems. They highlighted ethical issues underlying the choice of discount rates to evaluate the benefits of wild nature for human welfare.
This report was published in 2009.

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity Interim Report, a first assessment stemming from a G8+5 initiative sponsored by Germany and the European Commission, points to the growing pressures on biodiversity and ecosystem services across the world and the need for improved valuation metrics for pricing natural resources. The main pressures come from population growth, changing diets, urbanization, climate change and invasive alien species.
This report was published in 2008.
