The corporate ecosystem services review

This publication introduces the Corporate Ecosystem Services Review-a structured methodology to help businesses develop strategies for managing risks and opportunities arising from their dependence and impact on ecosystems. It is a tool for corporate strategy development and can augment existing environmental management systems.
Our three organizations contributed complementary skills to create the Ecosystem Services Review : the World Resources Institute, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Meridian Institute.
This publication describes the five steps for performing an Ecosystem Services Review
The Dependence and Impact Assessment Tool is a spreadsheet that guides managers through the five dependence and impact questions for each ecosystem service and automatically develops a visual summary of the results. The spreadsheet has three sections: a set of instructions for using the tool , a dependence and impact questionnaire and a summary matrix that translates the responses provided in the questionnaire into a one-page visual chart.
This document was published in 2009.

EBEvie, an assessment tool

This tool was designed to enable assessment of biodiversity / company interrelationships. The main objective is to raise awareness among firms about biodiversity issues.
It also aims to offer companies hints as to how they may take living things into greater consideration in their business activities, so as to enhance risk anticipation and better understand their opportunities for action.

Linking up GRI and CDP: How do the Global Reporting Initiative Reporting Guidelines match with the Carbon Disclosure Project questions?

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) published a linkage document between GRI’s Reporting Guidelines and CDP’s 2010 Questionnaire.
The linkage document outlines how reporters can efficiently use or adapt the same data in both reporting processes.

The ADEME Bilan Carbone carbon assessment

The Bilan Carbone method, developed by ADEME (the French Environment and Energy Management Agency), offers a technique for calculating greenhouse gas emissions using readily available data, in order to arrive at a fair assessment of direct emissions or knock-on emissions from a given activity or geographic region. It can be applied to any activity: industrial or tertiary-sector businesses, administrations, local authorities or even the geographic areas falling under the administration of local bodies.
This assessment is the vital first step in reaching a "greenhouse gas" diagnosis for one's activity or region.
The June 2010 methodological guide explains the principles of accounting for greenhouse gas emissions obtained via the Bilan Carbone method for each of its two versions: for businesses and for local authorities.

Protocol for the quantification of greenhouse gases emissions from waste management activities

The purpose of the quantification protocol of GHG emissions due to waste management, developed by EpE (Entreprise pour l'Environnement), is to provide guidelines for local authorities and companies whose activity is waste management as well as companies managing their own wastes, to quantify, report and verify greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions, in order to obtain a GHG emissions inventory. This document is intended to establish best practices for the implementation of the annual inventories of GHG emissions.
The version 3.0 was published in 2008 and the version 4.0 in 2010.

The EpE protocol for greenhouse gas emission quantification and reporting

This protocol was published by Entreprises pour l'Environnement (Enterprises for the Environment, or EpE) in 2001. It was updated in 2005 in accordance with feedback from users and observations from on-going work in the domain. The document is designed to serve as a guide for firms wishing to quantify, report and verify greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions), with a view to drawing up an inventory of GHG emissions.
It is perfectly compatible with the GHG Protocol established under the auspices of the WBCSD and the WRI.

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol Initiative

Jointly convened in 1998 by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), the GHG Protocol is a unique multi-stakeholder partnership of businesses, NGOs, and governments that serves as the premier source of knowledge about corporate GHG accounting and reporting.
The resulting standard and guidance are supplemented by a number of user-friendly GHG calculation tools on the GHG Protocol website (www.ghgprotocol.org).

Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)

The Carbon Disclosure Project is an independent notfor-profit organization holding the largest database of primary corporate climate change information in the world. Thousands of organizations from across the world's major economies measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies through CDP. The CDP puts this information at the heart of financial and policy decision-making.
