The Dutch government builds on the self-regulating and disciplining functioning of businesses when it comes to CSR. The government supports CSR in companies by providing practical manuals, knowledge and clear frameworks. The governments vision on CSR includes a recommendations report, a cabinet vision on CSR 2008-2011, and a normative framework.

The Netherlands also has several objectives concerning sustainable public procurement. The government has set itself a target to be 100% sustainable in its procurement processes by 2010. The progress of this objective will be measured in 2011.

MVO Nederland is a starting point and guide for entrepreneurs in the Netherlands in the area of CSR. The organisation brings all interested parties together to share knowledge and to carry out joint activities focusing mainly on implementing CSR in a way that both society and the company profit.
MVO Nederland reaches business mainly by means of intermediate parties (for example: chamber of commerce, business associations, and trade organisations).
