OECD Initiatives
The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises were drawn up in the 1970s, a decade during which the activities of corporations became a topic of discussion among international organisations. They provide a specific guidance for corporate activity to encourage foreign investment while meeting sustainable development aspects. This initiative arises from the "OECD Declaration and Decisions on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises", which establishes a set of non-biding recommandations adressed by governments to multinational enterprises operating in or from adhering countries.
The Guidelines were updated in 2011 for the fourth time since they were first adopted in 1976.

The Trade Union Advisory Committee (TUAC) to the OECD is an interface for labour unions with the OECD. It is an international trade union organisation which has consultative status with the OECD and its various committees.
TUAC's Users' Guide For Trade Unionists to the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises is intended to help trade unions worldwide in using the newly revised OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises in order to secure and protect workers' rights.
